Deer Creek Elementary Sings!

NEVADA CITY, CA – January 17, 2012 – Recently Deer Creek Elementary School offered its second series of after school enrichment classes. Classes are diverse, ranging from recreational to creative and artistic, and are always looked forward to by the students. Taught by community experts in their field, the classes are popular and fill up quickly. One of the select classes offered is a sing-a-long choir led by Mrs. Miriam Hoiem, a retired Kindergarten teacher who also offers private piano lessons to children. Around the piano, the children in grades K-4 were taught patriotic songs such as “This Land is Your Land”, “America”, and “We Are the Kids of America”. The children also learned fun songs such as “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music, and “Puff the Magic Dragon”. On the last day of the six week program, the children (pictured below) performed for parents in a mini concert. One parent said proudly, “These kids did a great job. You could see in their eyes that every one of them was excited to perform and simply love to express one of life’s gifts, a voice to sing.”
